Transition your wardrobe for spring with layers
Tuesday, March 9, 2010

The promise of warm weather is here, but we all know how unpredictable Mother Nature can truly be. Spring doesn’t always come in with a sudden wave of warm air. There is usually a chill in the air for awhile that you need to consider when getting your wardrobe ready for spring.

So how do you still get ready for the new season and still stay warm? Layering!

Tip 1: Say No to Bulk!
This rule is essential for proper layering. Avoid heavy, bulky garments that make you look disproportioned or overstuffed. Use sweaters that are more fitted over a dress shirt or another top.

Tip 2: Key Wardrobe Items
Cotton cardigans, denim jackets, and long sleeve tees are essential items for your transitional wardrobe, and are easy to layer. Keep your lighter fabrics beneath, and your heavier fabrics on top. You want to build up your layers like you are building up your appearance.

Tip 3: Pick Your Colors and Patterns Carefully
Although mixing a few different patterns can sometimes turn out great, most times it looks a mess. Unless you are feeling daring, it’s best to stick with one solid color and one pattern. Also make sure your layers’ colors compliment each other.

Out with the Old, In with the New
Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Every day, everyone faces the same tough decision in front of the closet – what do I wear today? You have a closet and drawers full of your favorite fashions, yet picking an outfit that you are truly happy with seems rare. Nine times out of ten, you’ve ended up settling for something just so you can keep moving with your day.

So how do you step out of the door every morning confident in what you are wearing? Before you go buying a new outfit, stop and get rid of the old stuff first. It’s been proven that the more options you have in front of you, the less satisfied you are going to be with the one you pick. You end up spending more time second-guessing whether you should have gone with something else.

If you only have three shirts that you love, it is much easier to pick one of those three and feel good about your choice. If you have 30, you start analyzing every little thing about each one until you drive yourself nuts!

This is going to be hard, but follow these guidelines to help you clear some clutter:

• Your wardrobe is not a museum. What looked good on you ten years ago is still outdated and probably does not look as good on you anymore (or at least not as good as you like to think). If it is outdated and out of style, toss it.

• Sentimental clothes are not always keepers. If you only wear it once in a blue moon just to appease your significant other or in-laws, it’s not worth keeping.

• If you haven’t worn it in a year, you probaby never will.

• Saving clothes that don’t fit is just a daily blow to your self-esteem when you open your closet. Get rid of them and use the space for something that does fit.

Once you have cleared out the old and unworn, it is time to go buy yourself some outfits that fit you and make you feel good inside and out. It’s all about the body-clothes connection, and BHFO has everything you need to make that connection complete.

Swimsuit myths and shopping tips
Tuesday, February 23, 2010

It may still be chilly outside, but the beach season will be here before you know it! For many women, finding that perfect swimsuit can be a daunting task, with hours of agonizing trial and error in department stores.

When you add in many of the popular swimsuit myths floating around, it can be downright frustrating! Not to worry though - we are going to take a look at the facts vs. the fiction for some of these to help you find the best swimsuit choice for you.

Myth 1: The less your swimsuit covers, the better.
Fact: Swimsuits, like your clothes, should be about you looking and feeling good in them. Some people like showing off and wearing as little as possible; others are a little more conservative. There are a huge variety of swimsuit styles out there that can either show it all, or hide what you don't want to be seen. Make the decision to buy with your body and comfort in mind.

Myth 2: Buy a black swimsuit to look slimmer.
Fact: Black does have a slimming effect. However, that doesn't mean you have to restrict yourself to black for your swimwear. Navy, brown, dark green and plum all work just as well. Vertical or diagonal stripes and small prints on your swimwear can also help you look leaner.

Myth 3: Buy the same size swimsuit as your clothing size.
Fact: In most cases, swimsuits are actually sized smaller than clothing because they are meant to have a very snug fit. You may want to shop a size or two up, as well as consider if the swimsuit brand is targeting juniors.

Remember, the perfect swimsuit is not just about trying to look like a swimsuit supermodel, or buying the most expensive designer brand. Your swimsuit should flatter your body and still allow you to be comfortable.

Now that you have some more insight, head on over to BHFO to find the swimsuit of your dreams! Shop BHFO on eBay! >>

Friday, February 5, 2010

Looking to get a man’s attention? There are tons of do’s and don’ts out there, but after learning the dating ropes, maybe it’s about time you get a little playful with your wardrobe.

Whether you’re going out on date, or just stopping by the nearest coffee shop, you’ll want to make an effort to look your best, so here are some unique ideas to get the clothes that get the guy:

1. Let the sheer peek out- it doesn’t have to be a tutu; a pretty little slip will do

2. Wear the pants- take out your most flattering pair and accentuate it with flattering jewlery.

3. Fact: Men love red- choose an orangy red if you have a warmer skintone, or a blue-red if you’re cooler.

4. Show off your waist- all you need is something belted and halter shaped

5. Pick a lingerie-ish dress- if you are worried about being overexposed layer a white tank underneath.

There are plenty of ways out there to make your look work in your favor. As usual, make sure whatever you wear, you feel confident, sexy, and comfortable.

Stop by BHFO today to get the look that turns every head in the room.

Spruce Up Your Wardrobe
Wednesday, February 3, 2010

If you turn on the TV, walk through a mall, or check the newspaper, you will always hear about the latest sale in women’s clothing. How many times do you hear about this store’s Semi-Annual Sale, or that store’s Sale?

Mens clothing seems to go on sale mostly during the holidays and maybe once when each season changes. So how is a guy supposed to keep up with dressing well without all of the sale prices to ease the burden on his wallet?

Simple – rather than buying all new clothes, work on sprucing up your current wardrobe!

Here are three simple tips to spruce up your look on a budget:

1. Check Your Pants – if you look through your closet, you probably have a few pairs of pants that don’t fit as well as they used to, but are still in great shape! Don’t throw them away! Take them to your local tailor and have them adjusted. It’s cheaper than buying all new pants and you come out with better-fitting pants. This also works great for any old suits or coats!

2. Show Your Shoes Some Love – every man can be easily appraised by the shoes on his feet. Get your shoes polished and repaired instead of replacing them. Often times a good polish can make an old shoe look like a completely new one, and it will still be broken in!

3. Build Off What You Have – look at what you currently own, and then buy a few new pieces that work with it. A few new pieces can freshen up your existing wadrobe while still allowing you to mix-and-match between old and new for all new looks!

Start it off the right way
Monday, February 1, 2010

The beginning of every year is a good time to take a step back and see where you're at - and that applies to your wardrobe as well as your new year's resolution!

Here's a few tips to clean out your closet and get a fresh new perspective on your style:

• Do you need to dress it up? If you're finishing up college, or starting a new job, this might be a good time to start adding more "adult' pieces into your collection.

• Is it versatile? You might not need that polka-dot sweater you love so much on a daily basis, but a pair of black heels will work with just about anything. Make sure you have a few cornerstone pieces that you can accent with your wild sid.

• Can you dress it up OR dress it down? Simple, classic pieces like a white shirt can be dressed up for work, or paired with jeans for a casual, sophisticated look.

Turquoise is on the Rise
Wednesday, January 27, 2010

After a rough and tumble year, the fashion world is looking to brighten things up for a refreshing start.

Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute, a company that tracks color in the fashion and home décor worlds, has given the nod to turquoise to “transport” us into a tropical, happier outlook in 2010.

Here’s just a few tips that will help you integrate this style-ready color into your ensemble:

• Turquoise Jewelry – bracelets and necklaces go with just about anything, and will add fun to even the darkest color palettes

• Fabric is important – the right one will create a luxe look, but the wrong fabric will end up looking cheap

• Accessorize with a turquoise bag or belt – the accent will make you stand out in a crowd

We've got you started - now go get your turquoise!

Picking The Right Tie
Monday, January 25, 2010

It’s a New Year, which means plenty of resolutions to go around! Often this includes upgrading one’s wardrobe to reflect the “new you” for the upcoming year.

So let’s start with an often overlooked fashion accessory that is making a comeback – the necktie! Yes there is more to it than just picking a color that matches your suit and tying it properly. Believe it or not, your tie can say a lot about you, and can often make or break how people look at you.

Here are three tips to keep you from getting tied up!

• A proper tie should hit the top of your belt buckle, and be between 3 and 4 inches wide. If you wear a tie that’s too short, you can come across as clueless. Too long, and you look like a little kid trying on daddy’s clothes. Use different knots to get the proper length, and make sure to use the tie’s keeper to hold the skinny end in place.

• In business, whether or not you need a tie is all about your role versus where the money is. The closer you are to the money, the more you need to wear that tie, especially if you have to sell your services or convince someone else to give you the money. If you are on the opposite end of the spectrum, you can probably get away with not wearing it.

• Match your jacket, suit, and tie to your natural complexion. If you are a high contrast person (dark hair and light skin or vice versa), your outfit should be the same way. If your hair-skin contrast is much softer, then go for lower-constrasting colors as well.
