Green is the Way To Go This Earth Day

Every Earth Day, articles are written about “green” and sustainable fashion, from designer “earth-friendly” product lines to t-shirts and totes.

Many make a single green fashion purchase and consider it their contribution for the year. But truly eco-friendly dressing goes deeper than that — and it is almost as easy as tossing your recyclables in your recycling bin. All it takes is following the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

•Reduce: Avoid the constant allure of the sale. Shop for key fashion essentials that you can create a variety of outfits from, instead of many “single outfit” pieces.

• Reuse: Before you throw out those old clothes, see if you can salvage them. Some just need a little embellishment or new accessories to compliment them. A good tailor can often work wonders to make old clothes fit like new.

• Recycle: If you can’t wear it anymore, don’t be so quick to throw it out. Find an artsy craft to turn your unwearable fabric into something more than just an old piece of clothing. Old clothes also work great for practical purposes, like cleaning and decorating.
